ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS

What are Botox injections?

Botulinum toxin (also more commonly known as Botox/Vistabel/Azzalure) is a very commonly used treatment for the softening of facial wrinkles and lines, and is suitable for both men and women. Botulinum toxin is a muscle relaxing injection. The injections may not be suitable with other medical conditions, this will be checked at the initial consultation. You may feel that the moderate to severe lines between your brows make you look tired or unapproachable, or have other reasons for being curious about BOTOX. With real, noticeable results, no surgery and no recovery time, there are many reasons why BOTOX has been chosen by millions of patients and their aestheticians.

What are muscle relaxing injections?

Botulinum toxin acts by blocking the transmission of electrical impulses which cause muscle contraction. This results in a prolonged but temporary relaxation of the muscle. Botulinum toxin injections have been used medically since 1978 to correct eye squint and eyelid spasms safely, effectively and with few side effects.

Botulinum toxin is injected directly into specific muscles which are responsible for controlling facial expressions and cause wrinkling of the overlying skin. The resulting relaxation of the muscle softens the facial expression and helps reverse the signs of ageing.

What happens during the procedure?

A very small needle is used and several injections of botulinum toxin into each muscle are usually needed, depending on the area treated. Localised discomfort and bruises can occur, but no sedation or local anaesthesia is required. Normal activities can be resumed immediately.

What about the results?

The effect of the injections normally take about two to three days to start working, with maximum effect at about one to two weeks, depending upon the strength of the facial muscle. The effects generally last for three to six months. When injected into the muscles that are responsible for expression wrinkles, it gives the face a more relaxed and smoother appearance. When a gradual fading of treatment effect is eventually noticed, you may return to have further treatment.

Is the treatment painful and will I still be able to make facial expressions ?

Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Prior to injection, your practitioner may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream. The entire procedure takes approximately 15 minutes. Most patients are in and out of the office without downtime following BOTOX treatment.

Although the results are visible, a treatment with Botox should not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you’ve “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is temporarily reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.

How to choose a clinic? – there are so many – I’m confused!!
